Ripping through cables and sounding like massive glaciers scraping against each other, apolar. from Bloomington, Ill. takes everything you thought you knew about independently produced post-rock and turns it on it's head.

 

With a simultaneous nod to the intellectual and the destructive, their debut EP, "the design." is exactly what fans of This Will Destroy You, Explosions in the Sky, and Caspian have been searching for the past few years.

 

TJ Fulfer and Dan Bretz take a wild jump straight into tension-filled territory with the first track on their new EP, and never look back. Even in moments of serenity, the songs are all gripping, haunting, beautiful and inspired. Making something difficult look easy, this is truly momentous instrumental post-rock, and the duo takes great steps towards advancing an often stagnant genre.
